Beau Robinson Crowned King of the Desert at Finke 2024

Beau Robinson and Shane Hutt have claimed their first King of the Desert crown in the car category after finishing with the fastest overall time on Race Day 2 at the 2024 Tatts Finke Desert Race.

Robinson completed the Day 2 leg within 1 hour, 47 minutes and 36.01 seconds alongside Navigator Shane Hutt. With Robinson’s seventh time on the cars podium since 2009 delivering his first King of the Desert Crown.

“It’s been a long time coming, all the ups and downs over the years, it’s a really good feeling,” he said.

“The emotions are high, the boys did a great job, I’ve been coming here my whole life, so it means a lot.”

Beau Robinson stood on the podium for the seventh time since 2009 at the 2024 Tatts Finke Desert Race, with this being his first King of the Desert.

Billy Geddes and Brett Comiskey (#434) finished second overall, approximately 5 minutes and 1 second behind Robinson. The team shared the load with Geddes driving to Aputula (Finke) on Sunday with Navigator Alan Cornick, while Comiskey took the wheel on the way home alongside Navigator Corey Cooper.

“It means heaps, eight years I’ve been coming here, [Billy Geddes] rode the wheels off going down there so I just had to maintain,” Comiskey said.

“Smoothy got around me, then I sort of lost a bit of an edge, but once I saw he had a flat tyre I thought I’ve got a second chance and went for it.”

Despite their car doing three rolls and losing GPS on their way down to Aputula on Sunday, James Cook (#10) and Navigator Mitch Aucote managed to finish third overall in the cars today, rounding out the podium for the 2024 Tatts Finke Desert Race.

Held on the King’s Birthday Long Weekend (June 7 – June 10, 2024) the 2024 Tatts Finke Desert Race is an off-road, multi terrain two-day race for bikes, cars, buggies and quads through desert country from Alice Springs to the small Aputula (Finke) community.
